Hi John, DGA Political Director Chris Sloan here with an exclusive internal memo on our strategy just for you.

After decisive wins last month by Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger in Virginia, voters made one thing clear: they’re rejecting MAGA’s extreme agenda, and turning to Democratic governors to lead the way.

Building on these record-breaking victories, the DGA is going on the offense for all 36 gubernatorial races in 2026.

Our top priorities are defending all 11 Democratic incumbents, holding key open seats, and flipping tough states all across the country. Here’s a look at a few pivotal races ahead:

Arizona: Incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs has defended democracy and reproductive rights, making her a prime GOP target in 2026 after heavy spending to try to defeat her in 2022. With her strong record and support from Arizonans, we are confident we can hold this seat and win four more years of Democratic progress.

Wisconsin: Retiring Gov. Tony Evers championed policies that helped Wisconsinites and reversed a decade of extreme gerrymandering. We can elect a strong successor to build on that progress.

Georgia: With Republican Governor Brian Kemp retiring after eight years, we have a chance to elect a Dem governor for the first time in nearly 30 years.

Nevada: GOP Gov. Lombardo barely won in 2022 and has spent his term backing an increasingly unpopular Trump agenda. Now we have a real chance to flip the state and elect a Democratic governor after four years of failed leadership.

John, with momentum on our side, we have the opportunity to win every single one of these races. With Republicans controlling Washington, Democratic governors remain the last line of defense for fundamental freedoms – and the strongest champions for lowering costs, protecting health care, and strengthening public education.

As we roll out our 2026 strategy, we want to hear from you. Will you take my quick survey to inform our grassroots strategy for our thirty-six key races next year?
