John,
There’s a huge development in Indiana.
After the governor and several state legislators were targeted with bomb threats, swattings, and other threats of violence over the last few weeks, Indiana Republicans have unveiled a new congressional map that would give Republicans a 9-0 advantage — and the state house is set to vote on it this week.
Look, Indiana voters don’t want this mid-decade redraw. Most state lawmakers don’t want it. But Washington Republicans are desperate to unfairly rig the midterm elections. And this seemingly coordinated intimidation campaign being waged against lawmakers resisting the effort shows how far they’ll go to get their way. And some Indiana Republicans are all too willing to take their marching orders from Donald Trump.
Let’s be crystal clear: When lawmakers bend to the will of a bully and threats of violence instead of listening to their own constituents, democracy falters. Public trust is eroded. And our government is co-opted by a handful of politicians rather than guided by the will of the people.
We have to remind these Indiana lawmakers that they still work for us — the people — not for politicians, and that attempts to silence voters will only backfire. Rush in a donation to help us keep up the fight in Indiana and wherever map manipulators try to rig the midterm elections. The consequences of what happens next in Indiana are profound. If Republicans force through a mid-decade redraw, this would be one of the most blatant examples of state lawmakers kowtowing to Washington rather than their own voters.
And it would represent an alarming indication that threats of violence can effectively move lawmakers. Trump has threatened to primary any Indiana Republican who didn’t go along with his map redraw scheme. Trump called out Indiana Governor Mike Braun on Truth Social. Now the governor says he and his family have received threats.
This is what we’re up against, John. And we simply cannot let this intimidation campaign prevail.
Chip in what you can to help us stand up for democracy and fight back in Indiana and across the country where Trump is turning up the pressure to cheat his way to victory in 2026.
