Recently, I joined a coalition of attorneys general to challenge one of the Trump administration’s most dangerous abuses of power yet: the violent use of force against peaceful protesters and journalists.

During largely peaceful demonstrations in Los Angeles, federal agents used tear gas, pepper balls, and rubber bullets indiscriminately, injuring peaceful protesters, legal observers, and members of the press.

These are not the tactics of a democracy confident in its own principles. They are the tactics of an administration willing to violate the First Amendment to silence dissent.

So we filed an amicus brief urging the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a preliminary injunction blocking these unlawful practices.

As your Attorney General, I will never back down from defending free speech, protecting the press, or stopping the unlawful use of force against peaceful Americans.
