Amazon ships more than 5 billion packages annually in the United States: The equivalent of about 17 parcels for every single person in America.1

As a giant retailer, Amazon can have a giant impact on the plastic pollution problem. That's why this Giving Tuesday, we're focusing on convincing Amazon to reduce its use of wasteful plastic packaging.
The United States is the world's largest plastic polluter.2 But it doesn't have to be this way. When we work together, we can make big progress towards a future beyond plastic -- and this is how we get there:

Two years ago, PIRG researchers and volunteers set out to discover whether or not Amazon packaging was actually being recycled.
The answer? No -- almost none of the Amazon packaging we tracked actually ended up at recycling centers.3
After the discovery, supporters like you helped us call out Amazon's plastic waste by sending more than 138,000 petition signatures to the company, urging it to reduce single-use plastic in its shipments.
And it worked. After our campaign, Amazon began phasing out padded plastic shipping envelopes and plastic air pillows.4,5
