ADOPT A FAMILY [[link removed]] DONATE [[link removed]]
Dear John,
On this Giving Tuesday, I want to share a story that has stayed with me — one that represents what so many of our Military and Veteran families are facing this holiday season.
It’s the story of Steven, an Active Duty Coast Guard Service Member and father of three. For years, he has protected our shores and responded when others needed help. This year, it’s his own family that finds itself in crisis.
Like many Military households, rising costs hit them hard. Then came the government shutdown — pushing their already stretched budget past the breaking point. They deferred bills. Cut every possible expense. Tightened their budget until there was nothing left to tighten.
And even with all of that, Christmas gifts for their children simply aren’t possible.
What moved me most was Steven’s humility. He doesn’t ask for anything extravagant. He simply wants his children to have something to unwrap — some moment of joy during a season that has become overwhelmingly stressful.
Here is his full message:
“After the government shutdown, it put us even further into a financial rut. We have had to get bills deferred, cut expenses, and be extremely strict with our remaining budget. We couldn’t have gotten our children gifts without help from this organization, and we cannot put into words how grateful we are for this opportunity.”
— Steven, Active Duty Coast Guard
Families like Steven’s are the reason the Holiday Adopt-A-Family program exists. They are the reason we’re working so hard today — on Giving Tuesday — to reach every household still waiting.
As of this morning, 453 families are still hoping to be adopted [[link removed]].
These families are navigating deployments, medical hardships, financial strain, and food insecurity. Many simply want to provide their children with a holiday meal and a few gifts to remind them that they are loved.
This is where your generosity can change everything.
If you are able, I’m asking you to help today:
Adopt a Military or Veteran family [[link removed]] Donate to support families still waiting [[link removed]]
Your support will directly, immediately, and profoundly impact families like Steven’s — families who have given so much and are asking for so little.
Thank you for opening your heart on this Giving Tuesday. Thank you for helping us make sure that no hero’s household is left behind this holiday season.
With gratitude,
Amy Palmer
