Elephants in Amer Fort, India, are forced to carry tourists in searing heat from sun-up to sun-down—something no elephant was born to do.

Young elephants in the entertainment industry are often separated from their mothers and tied down with chains for days to exhaust them. Trainers hit them with hooks, sticks, or sharp metal objects to break their spirit, so they will submit to them.

When elephants aren’t performing or giving rides, they may spend most of their time chained up in stressful locations near loud music, busy roads, and gawking tourists.
