For most of us, everyday life is very different from last summer. But for many neglected "backyard dogs" whose whole world is confined to the length of a heavy chain, little—if anything—has changed, other than that their owners may be paying even less attention to them now.
They're still desperate for the love and affection that every dog deserves—and they're craving the shelter that they need to survive in the sweltering heat and unforgiving sun.
By sponsoring a PETA doghouse, you'll help give a neglected dog a sturdy, year-round shelter—offering some relief from the heat and violent storms of summer and the icy winds of winter. Our determined fieldworkers go even further by providing food, water, medical treatments, and much-needed affection—often the only kindness and respect that these sweet animals receive.
You'll also drive critical PETA advocacy campaigns that are saving dogs' lives—such as our successful work to secure new tethering restrictions in Virginia. Powered by supporters like you, our team pushed through a desperately needed animal protection measure that prohibits tethering dogs outside during below-freezing temperatures, extreme heat, hurricanes, and other severe storms—but many animals are waiting for similar laws to be enacted in their own communities. And of course, the dogs we help in North Carolina still need more legal protections, which we're pushing for.
