Some of the LGBTQ+ young people who reach out to The Trevor Project need to hide who they are because being out isn’t safe. They feel like they have no one to turn to — not one affirming parent, teacher, coach, or other supportive adult. And they can't even imagine a future where they can live as their true selves.

2025 has been a very difficult year for LGBTQ+ young people. According to a recent Trevor study, LGBTQ+ youth are facing an urgent and ongoing mental health crisis, likely due to factors including discrimination, economic challenges, and a surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and rhetoric.

Our crisis counselors are here to let LGBTQ+ young people know that there’s a world of people who will embrace them for who they are. Trevor offers this support because it can be life-saving. When LGBTQ+ young people report feeling accepted by just one adult, their odds of attempting suicide are significantly lower. In many instances, by more than 40% according to Trevor research.
