Celebrate GivingTuesday with CDT

Today is GivingTuesday!
Now more than ever, CDT is hard at work putting your rights first. Across all levels of government, with private companies of all sizes, and alongside public interest partners across the country, we're advancing an innovation-fueled future that respects people's rights. In 2025, CDT:
* Spoke out against the federal government's growing attacks on free expression and civil liberties, including politicized attacks on broadcasters and journalists, viewpoint-based immigration enforcement, social media monitoring, and the unprecedented amassing of sensitive data from the IRS and social safety net programs by DOGE and the federal government;
* Defended independent agencies like the Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Privacy & Civil Liberties Oversight Board as they faced politicized firings and policy changes that gut their independence;
* Expanded our work at the state level, hiring our first Director of State Engagement and serving as a key resource for state legislators considering AI-related issues, privacy, and online expression bills across the country;
* Grew our AI Governance Lab into a leading public interest resource, publishing reports on operationalizing responsible AI, trust & safety considerations, and the privacy issues arising from the increasing personalization of AI systems;
* Provided technical advice and assistance to a wide range of state and local agencies on effective AI adoption, while helping foster important networks for best practices;
* Gathered insights from young people and other tech users on the safety features they most want from social media and AI companies, advancing best practices on topics like age verification, combatting NCII, detecting unwanted content in livestreaming platforms, and content moderation in non-English languages;
* Continued our leadership on how technology impacts workers' rights, disability rights, and the rights of older Americans through dedicated projects and partnerships;
* Released headline-making research on the use of AI in schools, providing needed guidance for educators and families on topics including AI literacy, deepfake NCII, student activity monitoring, and the questions to ask of emerging AI edtech providers; and
* Began preparing for the midterms through new work on the impact of AI on elections, security gaps left by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the role of social media influencers in the political process, and more.
Support the Center for Democracy & Technology this GivingTuesday with a donation of $10, $25, $50, or more. ([link removed])
Any amount that is meaningful to you will enable us to advance our efforts to put civil rights and civil liberties at the center of the digital age.
Sincerely,
The CDT Team
