Tell the Administration that Safeguarding Imperiled Wildlife is Non-Negotiable Dear John,
The Trump administration has proposed sweeping changes to Endangered Species Act (ESA) regulations that would undermine the law's original intent and expose threatened and endangered wildlife to a heightened risk of extinction. The language is very similar to rules that were finalized during the first Trump administration--and then partially rolled back during the Biden administration. If finalized, the regulatory changes could - introduce biased economic data into the process of deciding whether to list a species as threatened or endangered,
-
reduce vital input from federal wildlife agencies, and
- shrink the amount of protected habitat set aside to support species' recovery.
Furthermore, the changes would eliminate the "blanket 4(d) rule," which automatically applies the same strict prohibitions against harming or killing threatened species as those applied to endangered species, unless a species-specific rule is created to offer exemptions. |
What You Can Do
The federal government is accepting input on its proposed plan. Please submit public comments by December 22 urging the administration not to move ahead with these proposed regulations. Be sure to share our action alert with family, friends, and coworkers, and encourage them to take action, too. As always, thank you very much for your help! Sincerely, Johanna Hamburger Director and Senior Attorney Terrestrial Wildlife Program
