Green card review expanded to 19 countries: USCIS Director Joseph Edlow said Thursday the agency is reexamining green cards from 19 countries of concern per presidential direction, based on a June White House memo restricting migration from Afghanistan, Burundi, Chad, Congo, Cuba, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Turkmenistan, Venezuela and Yemen, with DHS saying the full list of countries impacted by Noem’s recommendation will be revealed soon.

Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., Lucy McBath, D-Ga., and Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., represents bipartisan cooperation driven by shared concerns about government overreach and Americans facing criminal liability for violations they don’t understand.
Regulatory concerns highlighted: Roy argued thousands of federal rules beyond “basic, Ten Commandments-like laws” create criminal penalties for everyday activities, citing EPA regulations that can make farmers criminals for routine land use, with violators sometimes jailed for breaking obscure regulatory codes derived from generic environmental statutes.
Database requirements: The legislation would make the federal government to catalog all existing criminal laws and regulations while directing the Department of Justice to report prosecution numbers under each offense over the past 15 years, with McBath stating it ensures “Americans will no longer have to fear being excessively punished.”
The House is expected to consider the bill this week, potentially as early as Monday evening, marking another instance of Roy crossing partisan lines after previously partnering with Democrats on stock trading ban legislation.
