Election Results
Washington Voters, Once Again, Reaffirm Commitment to Gun Responsibility. We are so proud to say that this election, voters across Washington once again chose leaders who treat gun violence like the public health crisis it is. Our Victory Fund-endorsed candidates won at every level of government, showing that Washingtonians want leaders who will prioritize safety, accountability, and real solutions.
From city halls to the state capitol, these new and returning champions will play a key role in implementing and enforcing our existing firearm laws, supporting community-based violence intervention programs, and promoting safe storage in homes and communities. We believe that local leadership is where public safety takes root, and this year’s results bring dozens of new partners into this work.
We are extremely proud to celebrate wins from candidates like:
* Erika Evans, Seattle City Attorney Elect
* Dionne Foster and Alexis Mercedes Rinck, Seattle City Council Elects
* Girmay Zahily, King County Executive
You can see a full list of this year’s endorsed candidates on our website. [[link removed]]

Maine Question 2
Maine is Paving a Roadmap for State-Based Progress. Maine voters just made history by passing Question 2, establishing a long-overdue Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) [[link removed]] law. For a quick recap– ERPOs act as a life-saving policy that allows family members and law enforcement to petition the courts to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a danger to themselves or others. Similar ERPO laws are already working in more than 20 other states to prevent tragedy before it happens.
A little background on the landscape of firearms in Maine. This victory comes almost two years after the mass shooting in Lewiston that took 18 lives and exposed critical gaps in Maine’s existing “yellow flag” law. Voters responded with pressure and demands to prioritize prevention for the coming years. Passing the ERPO law was a major milestone towards violence prevention progress.
Maine’s success is bigger than one state. It is part of a growing movement of state-based gun safety organizations passing strong policy where federal action has stalled. We are extremely proud to partner with the Maine Gun Safety Coalition and other state-based advocates as together we build a roadmap for how states can lead the way to a safer future.

The Alliance’s Communication Director Gregory Joseph joined young people from across King County at another session of the Youth Ambassador Program organized by the King County Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention (KC ROGVP). During the November meeting, young people developed a series of gun safety public policy proposals that they will deliver at a December meeting of the Renton City Council. Among the policies these young people are pursuing include: safe storage, prohibiting firearms in sensitive places, and recognition by the City government to honor young people within the county whose lives have been impacted by gun violence. According to the Community Engagement Specialist for KC ROGVP, AGR’s “presence reinforced that they [youth] not only have a voice, but also the ability to shape the future they want to see.”

Alliance for Gun Responsibility Launches ‘Washington State Protection Orders’ Website
This summer, we were proud to launch a stateline online portal to help understand, navigate, and access civil protection orders across Washington. This new website, waprotectionorders.org [[link removed]] , is tailored to meet the needs of survivors, respondents, advocates, law enforcement and legal professionals, by consolidating information on all six types of civil protection orders in Washington.
Although Protection Orders are a vital tool for preventing harm, navigating these systems can be overwhelming, especially during a crisis. Now, with the launch of the waprotectionorders.org [[link removed]] , a clear, user-friendly guide tailored to all needs exists to bring the necessary clarity, justice and safety measures to those who need it most.
