John, The U.S. Forest Service has proposed opening 45 million acres of protected wild national forests to road-building, commercial logging, mining and drilling.1 Forests like the Santa Fe National Forest could be logged beyond repair -- and believe it or not, some of the trees threatened by this rollback are older than America itself.2 So this Giving Tuesday, Environment Colorado is rallying support to save our forests from being chopped down. And today only, donations to help defend our forests will be matched up to $50,000 nationwide. In the deep woods, a dense canopy of leaves blots out the sky as giant trees stretch to the sun. Some tree trunks have grown so thick, it would take hours to count their rings. Other spindly trees have grown so tall you can barely see their highest branches. No two forests are exactly alike, but they're all full of life. And where the forest grows wild, there is harmony between the plants and animals and people like you and me. But now the U.S. Forest Service is proposing to strip protections from 45 million acres of our last remaining wild national forests. This is the greatest threat to our forests in decades, and the places we cherish are in grave danger. Every section of forest that is logged or has a road built through it will take centuries to recover. We must save our wild forests ... because once they're gone, none of us will live long enough to see them recover. If these forests get cut down, they won't grow back in our lifetimes. It's up to us to save the Santa Fe National Forest and other forests across the nation. That's why we're so thrilled that generous donors are stepping forward to match all donations that we receive today, up to $50,000. If you give $5, we'll get $10. If you give $50, we'll get $100. And if you give $500, we'll get $1,000. It's an incredible opportunity for you to leverage the power of your donation to unlock even more support to help fuel all of Environment Colorado's work in the months ahead. Thank you, Ellen Montgomery Your donation will be used to support all of our campaigns to protect the environment, from saving the bees and protecting public lands, to standing up for clean water and fighting climate change. None of our work would be possible without supporters like you. Environment Colorado may transfer up to $50 per dues-paying member per year into the Environment Colorado Small Donor Committee. |
