The Labour Government in the UK is now threatening to abolish jury trials in almost all cases. This is a stunning attack on the instution of the jury that will undoubtedly have impacts outside the UK. Not only does the US inherit common law and the tradition of the jury from them, but success in the UK will undoubtedly give confidence to authoritarians worldwide.
FIJA is firmly preparing to resist this kind of audacious attack on liberty in the US. We've accomplished much since 1989 and have been redoubling our education and activist networks, but our finances remain much diminished since the untimely death of Kirsten Tynan. If you can donate this holiday season, it would do much to rebuild capacity.
