Exactly 70 years ago, Rosa Parks changed our nation forever with a quiet and dignified act of courage in Montgomery, Alabama.

When Rosa was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on a city bus, she sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, galvanized the Civil Rights Movement, and paved the way for the rights and freedoms we as African Americans enjoy today.

At this time in history, with our fundamental rights under assault, remembering the contributions of Rosa Parks is more important than ever. Authoritarian movements attack democracy by erasing history, and we need to draw a line in the sand.

We can't allow fearmongering to erase heroes like Rosa Parks from public memory, and declaring December 1st Rosa Parks day is a critical step to protecting the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement from ongoing attacks.
