It’s that time of year again. Mince pies. Charity appeals. And A Christmas Carol.
Because you can’t deny it John, Charles Dickens picked a perfect villain for his Christmas tale: a banker. Responsible for doling out crippling debts, soaring mortgage payments, and awful working conditions - a character prime for redemption - that’s spawned hundreds of adaptations and remakes.
Sadly, it isn’t all fiction. Money *is* power. And not just having lots of it, but who has control over creating and distributing it around our economy. [1]
Right now, banks are using their power to keep money flowing to deadly fossil fuels, chasing short-term profits for their shareholders, and driving up house prices. [2] They gamble on our future, knowing no matter how much they bet, governments will always bail them out.
Only if enough people join forces, can we ever hope to first resist, reduce, and finally, overcome the power imbalance between big finance and the rest of us. Every person who joins Positive Money strengthens this movement, and every new donor increase our chances of winning.
That’s why, this December, we’re looking for 100 new regular donors to step up so together we can head into 2026 stronger than ever before.
