Don't get left behind!

man at bus stop standing up and hailing the bus

During the darker months, we share a lot of ways for you to get noticed. We do this primarily for safety reasons. If you are a pedestrian or a bicyclist, you are much less visible to others in the dark and rain. We want you to get where you are going safely.

Another reason is so our Operators can see you waiting at a bus stop. If the bus you want to catch is approaching your stop, stand up and move toward the curb if you are seated. Turn on your phone's flashlight and wave at the driver. If you remain seated, the driver may not see you or may assume you are waiting for a different route that serves the same stop.

Remember, flashing lights and reflective clothing and gear will help you be seen, but motioning to the driver will let them know you want to be picked up.

Prepare Now for Winter Weather

Winter Weather Reminders Graphic

Intercity Transit is committed to providing service in snowy and icy conditions as long as it is safe to do so. We encourage you to prepare now so you are ready if we have any accumulations of snow.

Here are some winter weather reminders:

  1. The best way to know if the route you ride is on detour or delayed is to receive information from us via text message or email. Sign up at intercitytransit.com/subscribe.
  2. In the event of winter weather, we will post information on our website at intercitytransit.com/rider-alerts. Bookmark this page for quick access and check it before you leave home.
  3. Some area roads are difficult to travel in winter weather. Get familiar with our standard snow detours now so you'll know where to catch your bus when it's snowy or icy. They can be found at intercitytransit.com/bus/routes/snow-detours.
  4. Catch your bus at a stop on a flat portion of the street, at a Transit Center, or at a transfer point to avoid hills. If your bus stop is on a hill, walk to the bottom to catch your bus.
  5. Use your favorite trip planning app to see if your route is on detour and check for approximate departure times.
  6. Our goal is to get our buses and riders to their destinations safely, which will take longer in bad weather. Please be patient.

Look for Jingle Buses on a Route Near You

A jingle bus decorated for the season

The Intercity Transit Jingle Buses are back! We are excited to have two buses and a Dial-A-Lift van festively decorated again this year, spreading holiday cheer throughout the community.

The Jingle Buses will travel on different local routes through the end of December. If you don't want to wait to see one of the buses on route, come see us at one (or both) of the events we'll be at on Saturday, Dec. 6. We'll be at the Christmas in the Park Parade in Yelm from 9 to 10 a.m. and at the Tumwater Christmas Tree Lighting on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. We would love to see you!

May 2026 System Redesign

With each passing week, we move closer toward a final decision from the Intercity Transit Authority on our bus system redesign. As such, we are gearing up to help you learn the new system. This includes producing everything from route maps and schedules to a trip planner using the new routes so you can see how your trips will change. Until then, the most current information about the changes can be found at intercitytransit.com/redesign.

Over the last several weeks, we have been hearing from people concerned about the system redesign. We know change can be hard. Rest assured that if the redesign is approved, we will move quickly to get you the resources you need to help you ride confidently.

Look for us where you are. We'll be there to help. We want you to love the new system as much (or more) as you do our current system.
