Two Green Party Candidates Reflect on the 2025 Campaign



The Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) had nominated three candidates for local office during 2025. Michael Bagdes-Canning was nominated for re-election as Mayor of Cherry Valley in Butler County. Tony Dastra was nominated for two offices, Mayor and City Councilor of Lancaster City in Lancaster County. Alex Noyle was nominated for Auditor of East Norriton Township in Montgomery County.

To help them focus their answers, GREEN STAR asked our candidates four questions. Two of those candidates were kind enough to share their thoughts about the election.

GPPA Delegates Accept Green Party of Huntingdon County



Green Party members in Huntingdon County petitioned to have their new Green Party affiliated with the Green Party of Pennsylvania. On November 9, the GPPA State Committee accepted their petition and approved their bylaws by consensus. The chair of Huntingdon County Green Party will be Courtney Robinson, and their email address will be [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]>

GPPA State Committee Elects New Secretary

On November 9, the GPPA State Committee elected a new Green Party Secretary. With more than 40 delegates and friends participating virtually, Bryarr Misner won the contested election with two thirds of the vote. Misner, an organizer from Allegheny County, says he will “ensure that every county, member, and volunteer has a clear, accessible path to participation and that the party continues building structures that reflect its values.”

Michael Bagdes-Canning was re-elected Mayor of Cherry Valley. He received 27 votes (100%) according to the Butler County website,

Lancaster County

Tony Dastra was not elected Mayor of Lancaster City. He received 1,137 votes (10%) according to the Lancaster County website,

Alex Noyle was not elected Auditor of East Norriton. He received 340 votes (7%) according to the Montgomery County website,

Abi Hunter was elected Judge of Elections in Pittsburgh with 214 votes (99%). 

Stacy Flinn for Judge of Elections in Pittsburgh
Allegheny County
Stacy Flinn was elected Judge of Elections in Pittsburgh with 227 votes (99%). 

Alexander George Casper for Inspector of Elections in Bradford City
McKean County
Alex Casper was elected Inspector of Elections in Bradford with two votes (40%). 

Carl Jochen for Inspector of Elections in Scranton
Lackawanna County
Carl Jochen was elected Inspector of Elections in Scranton with one vote (then winning a tie-breaker).

Robert Schultz was not elected Inspector of Elections in Philadelphia with three votes (2%).

Alex Casper was not elected to the Government Study Commission with 247 votes (5%). 


The Green Party of the U.S. also lists three additional Green Party members who ran unsuccessfully for office in 2025. We could find no record of their vote.

Designation of the Israeli Defense Forces as a Terrorist Organization



The Green Party of the United States:

- Formally designates the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as a terrorist organization based on its consistent and systematic use of violence against civilian populations.



- Calls for an immediate end to all U.S. military aid to Israel and application of the Leahy Law to all IDF units.



- Supports the international prosecution of IDF officers involved in war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.

EcoAction Webinar on Climate COP 30 in Brazil



The EcoAction Committee of the Green Party of the US hosted a webinar on the Climate COP in Brazil on Monday, November 10  – the first day of the COP. Speakers were Rachel Ruback from the campaign for a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty;  Holly Kaufman from the Plastics and Climate Project; and 350.org US Senior Policy Analyst JL Andrepont. Green Livestream with David Cobb



David Cobb is a people’s lawyer who has sued corporate polluters, lobbied elected officials, run for political office himself, and been arrested for non-violent civil disobedience. He believes we must provoke—and win– a peaceful revolution for a peaceful, just, sustainable and cooperative society if we are to survive.
Cobb was the Green Party Presidential nominee In 2004, and forced a recount in Ohio that helped launch the Election Integrity movement. In 2010 he co-founded Move To Amend, a campaign for a constitutional amendment to abolish the illegitimate, court-created doctrines of “corporate constitutional rights” and “money equals speech.” In 2016 Cobb served as the campaign manager for Jill Stein’s presidential campaign. Indigenous Peoples Want Their Voices Heard at COP 30

Putting pressure on the negotiations was the goal of these protesters. Waving signs and flags, they are demanding concrete decisions on climate change, including a roadmap for phasing out fossil fuels. “Stop the agreements with the big mining and oil companies, we are here to defend Mother Nature.” “I want the COP leaders to ignore the fossil fuel lobbyists and think about the people, think about the Indigenous peoples who protect these lands and who must continue to do so,” the protesters chanted. DRC: Rupture of Contaminated Retention Basin Sparks Concerns

A leak from a water retention basin containing acid has caused significant damage [in the Democratic Republic of Congo], raising fears of major repercussions on the ecosystem, as well as on the health of the surrounding population. In addition to the flooding of a market and several homes, some fear that the incident will also cause soil pollution. According to residents of the Kasapa neighborhood and members of civil society, the reservoir that collapsed belongs to the Chinese mining company Congo Dongfang Mining (CDM). In Australia Tropical Forests Emit More CO2 Than They Retain



Researchers examined records tracing the growth of tropical forests in the Australian state of Queensland...over nearly 50 years. The results, published in the scientific journal Nature, show that extreme temperatures and severe droughts linked to climate change have made tree growth, and therefore their ability to store carbon, more difficult. Cyclones, whose intensity is expected to increase with climate change, have also had an impact. Another lesson: the increase in tree mortality has contributed to the release of CO2 into the atmosphere, a release that has not been offset by tree growth, which is itself affected by climate change. Brazil: Deforestation in the Amazon Fell by 11%



Deforestation in the Amazon fell by 11% year-on-year, according to the latest official figures, published on October 30. A total of 5,796 km² were deforested in the world’s largest rainforest...from August 2024 to July 2025, the lowest level in eleven years. Collected by satellites of the Prodes system of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), this data reflects the fourth consecutive decline in deforestation in [Brazil], a cause President Lula has championed. Adoption of Italian Motion to Increase Compensation for People with Disabilities



The Italian Green Party, Verdi - Grüne - Vërc, welcomes adoption of their motion...concerning better compensation for internships for people with disabilities...“Dignity is also demonstrated through work and fair pay.
