How Trump Wins

Victor Davis Hansondescribes the challenges <[link removed]> President Donald Trump faces as we approach the election in November:

By January 2019, after over three years of failed efforts to impeach him, sue him, indict him, impoverish him, and destroy him, the left had failed. The economy was booming. Trump’s tweets were mostly bragging about his accomplishments. And the left was dumbfounded that both impeachment and Mueller, in Nietzschean fashion, had only made Trump stronger.

Then came an unexpected trifecta catastrophe — plague, a quarantine-induced recession, and a leftist cultural revolution in the streets. Suddenly, the left saw all of that as a gift that might succeed where its own self-constructed melodramas had failed.

Hanson lays out what Trump can do to come back strong and win in 2020 – defending America’s rich history and great tradition of freedom; laying out a plan for an economic revival that also solves the root causes of our problems; and emphasizing the great future ahead when Americans of all classes and races are united in restoring America’s promise for every one of us.

Nancy Pelosi Endorses Ilhan Omar

The Algemeinerreports <[link removed]>:

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has endorsed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) for re-election in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, announced Omar’s campaign on Monday.

… Republican Jewish Coalition Executive Director Matt Brooks rebuked the endorsement.

“It’s sad and disappointing how little the leadership of the Democratic Party cares about standing up to antisemitism within their ranks,” he told JNS. “For Nancy Pelosi to endorse Ilhan Omar, who has trafficked in virulent antisemitic comments and has been one of the most vocal anti-Israel members of Congress, sends a message to the Jewish community that the Democratic Party just doesn’t care.”

Omar can tout support from the House Speaker, but she faces a primary challenger who is beating her in the fundraising race and may beat her in the primary election on August 11. The Star Tribunereports <[link removed]>:

[Antone] Melton-Meaux, a mediation lawyer who emerged on the DFL scene late last year to challenge Omar, told the Star Tribune he raised a staggering $3.2 million between April and the end of June, with $2 million cash left in the bank before the Aug. 11 primary. He dramatically outraised Omar, who took in $471,624 during the same time period.

… The fundraising gap would be striking for any newcomer challenging an incumbent, but it’s especially notable in a race against Omar, a freshman Democrat and member of “The Squad” who has risen to prominence as one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress. Omar herself is a prolific fundraiser, fueled in part by her national profile and her unabashed criticism of President Donald Trump.

One response to the #Jewishprivilege hashtag. By SefiraCreative, seen on Twitter July 14, 2020.

Pushing Back on Antisemitism

Jonathan Tobin takes on the antisemitic notion of “Jewish privilege,” which trended on Twitter this week <[link removed]>:

After seeing the hashtag #Jewishprivilege used to spread anti-Semitic smears, a Jewish activist responded—and the result was a tidal wave of tweets testifying to the fact that the phrase has generally meant that Jews have been singled out for persecution.

…The notion of white Jewish privilege fits in with a mindset that sees the world divided into two groups: evil white people and virtuous people of color victimized by whites. In that formulation, American Jews are participants in the outrage of systematic racism. Israeli Jews fall into the category of oppressors of Third World people, even though the majority of its citizens are actually “people of color,” according to the criteria of the ideologues.

Both assertions are as false as the more traditional tropes of right-wing Jew-hatred.

While America is far from perfect, the idea that it is an irredeemably racist nation and that Jews are part of that problem is simply untrue. America remains an exceptional nation when it comes to anti-Semitism; Jews have been accepted in virtually every sector of society. It’s also true that anti-Jewish hate crimes remain the most prevalent form of religious bias in this country, according to two decades of FBI statistics.

Jews are not the beneficiaries of some mysterious privilege, either in the sense of the conspiracy mongers of the right or the intersectional ideologues of the left.

Hen Mazzig writes about how Jewish Twitter users took the #Jewishprivilage hashtag away from the haters, here <[link removed]>.

Trump Takes Steps Regarding China <[link removed]>

During a press conference in the White House Rose Garden, President Donald Trump announced that he had signed into law the Hong Kong Autonomy Act, which imposes sanctions on entities that help violate Hong Kong's autonomy and financial institutions that do business with. He also signed an executive order that ends the United States’ preferential treatment of Hong Kong. Under the executive order, exports from Hong Kong will be subject to the same tariffs the White House has imposed on goods from mainland China – marking a blow for leaders in Beijing as they struggle to revamp their economy amid the coronavirus pandemic and cutting off a lucrative loophole.
