I’m going to pull back the curtain, John, because I need to level with you.
Tonight marks one of our final fundraising deadlines before the midterm election year. From the passage of Prop 50 adding tens of thousands of voters to CA-27, to the implications of the government shutdown, this month changed the landscape of our race.
As one of the only Democrats to flip a red seat blue last year, I’m at the top of the national GOP target list. We’re already facing a Republican challenger in this race, I’ve been named one of the most at-risk Democratic incumbents nationwide, and you can bet I’m already facing baseless attacks.
We expect the outside spending to increase in the new year -- right as we’re working to reach the new voters we need to keep this seat blue.
So I need to be upfront: What we raise before midnight will be the clearest signal of our strength heading into the midterm election year. We cannot afford to fall short when the stakes are this high.
