Friend, S.B. 293 is a bill ripped straight out of Trump’s Project 2025 playbook.

Trump has talked a big game about ending mail-in voting, and given how S.B. 293 was fast-tracked through our legislature, his pressure campaign is working — but it’s not even the most dangerous part of his mass disenfranchisement plan.

See, the plan outlined in Project 2025 would shift responsibility for prosecuting election-related offenses from the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division to the Criminal Division. That means that the Trump administration would effectively get the green light to launch sham investigations and aggressive prosecutions of voters and election officials.

If that sounds familiar, it’s because they’re already laying the groundwork to do exactly that in Ohio. Before they passed it in the House, Ohio Republicans jammed in a measure to S.B. 293 that would, among other things, create mandatory criminal referrals for voters who can’t correct bureaucratic errors on their voter registration.

Translation: You could be investigated for voter registration errors that may not even be errors you made or can easily correct.

Friend, this administration is literally changing the laws to bend the 2026 midterms in their favor. That’s why we have to elect fierce, proven leaders who are ready to fight back against their extreme voter suppression schemes on Day One.
