Friend,

I wanted you to be the first to know that today I endorsed Kansas State Treasurer Jake LaTurner for Congress in Kansas’ 2nd District.

I do not take this decision lightly. However, with the recent news that Congressman Steve Watkins has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor for voter fraud, I cannot sit on the sidelines and allow the actions of the incumbent Congressman to hand this seat over to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats.

Jake LaTurner is a trusted conservative who is ready to represent eastern Kansas in Congress. There’s no question that he will serve Kansans in the 2nd District well – focusing on the issues that matter most like limiting the federal government, securing our country, balancing the budget, and protecting the unborn.

As you may know, LaTurner is facing a three-way primary for the Republican nomination that includes embattled incumbent Congressman Steve Watkins.

Steve Watkins’ irresponsible actions have unfortunately put this seat in danger of being handed over to a Nancy Pelosi liberal who doesn’t represent our Kansas values. Steve will have a difficult time doing his job in Congress until these charges are dealt with and he needs to focus on putting his legal problems behind him.

While he certainly deserves a fair hearing in a court of law, this legal process won’t play out until after the general election and Republicans cannot put this seat at risk by nominating a candidate charged with multiple felonies.

Representing Kansans in Congress is a great honor that I take very seriously. Kansans deserve the best representation in Congress and I need Jake LaTurner to join me in fighting for our shared conservative values.
