Today is our November fundraising deadline, and I want to be honest. The worst part of running for office is asking people for money.
I wish I could spend every second of this campaign meeting with voters and sharing our ideas for how to unrig our economy and democracy.
But I can’t knock every door or call every voter in Texas myself. Even with a big social media following, there are a lot of voters I simply can’t reach on my own.
The only way we can win is by building the largest grassroots campaign Texas has ever seen. I can’t physically be everywhere in Texas in the same day. Nobody can, but we can build a campaign that does reach everyone.
We need organizers and volunteers in every corner of the state. We need significant resources to get our message on as many screens as possible. And yes, we’ll have to run ads to counter the lies and smears that super PACs funded by billionaires and corporations are going to run about me.
So this is why we have to raise money. I wish the money we’ve already raised would be enough. But we can’t allow those at the top to buy this seat for another puppet politician.
