John – I remember the exact moment it started.
I had just finished my comments in the Judiciary Committee before the vote to confirm or reject the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. As I glanced at my phone, I received a text. And then another. And then a dozen. Soon, there were too many to count. It went on like this for days. Apparently, my remarks on the Democrats' despicable treatment of Judge Kavanaugh – now Justice Kavanaugh – had struck a chord with folks who enthusiastically supported President Trump's pick to our nation's highest court. But I struck a different chord among the angry mobs, the liberal special interests and the left-wing radicals who have taken over the Democratic Party. Less than six weeks before an Election Day – when I wasn't even on the ballot – they literally stopped what they were doing to kick-off their campaign to defeat me. Liberal Hollywood celebrities signed fundraising emails against me, typed vicious Tweets and posted angry videos on social media. This smear campaign from the Left now means I am now the target of enraged mobs – simply because I stood up for the rule of law, due process and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. There was a point in our not-so-distant history when some moderate Democrats would have stood proudly alongside me. But I'm afraid those days are long gone. If anything, they've doubled-down against me. That's why I am asking you to come to my defense and support my campaign for re-election to the U.S. Senate. Emboldened by their red-state victories in 2018, liberal leaders have made me one of their targets in their quest to regain liberal control of the U.S. Senate. The Democrats vastly outraised Republicans in the 2018 elections, so I must turn to grassroots leaders like you right now. John, your financial support will be a tremendous boost. There's no telling what kind of garbage the Democrats will throw at me. But for every fake fact and vicious attack, I must respond right away with the truth. There's too much at stake to sit on the sidelines. I've never seen the Democrats this determined to win at any cost. Frankly, it concerns me more for our democracy than it does for my own re-election.
