Out of nowhere, summer is almost over --

And that means that schools will soon be back in session.

For the past few weeks, the current administration has bullied the U.S. public education system with one goal in mind: complete reopening by Fall 2020 of public schools. The problem? Public education received less than 1% of the first coronavirus relief package, and schools across the country are struggling to weigh the demands of remote learning and the high costs of safety protocols necessary to reopen.

The outbreak of coronavirus is hurting every part of American life and is exacerbated by the lack of a comprehensive plan for testing, treatment, and reopening. The lack of leadership from this administration continues to cause harm and it has to stop.

"I don't see how we do anything but remote education if the federal government doesn't step in," says Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers. She explains that public schools, long underfunded, are already suffering through budget cuts and a lack of access to safety equipment. "I don't see how we have the money for masks. I don't see how we have the money for cleaning. I don't see how we do this."

The Trump Administration is setting American public schools up for failure. No parent should have to make the tough decision between their child's health and safety, and their family's economic stability. It's critical that these stories and resources are amplified and the inaction of Trump and his Congressional allies is not ignored -- so thanks for doing your part.

In solidarity --
