I co-founded Common Dreams more than 25 years ago with my late wife, Lina Newhouser. Our vision was a new, people-powered media model committed to the progressive values of peace, social justice, and a fair economy — entirely funded by the voluntary donations of readers.

People said we wouldn’t make it a year, but we proved them wrong thanks to the unbelievable support of readers like you.

Today, however, it’s more challenging than ever to survive as an independent digital news outlet. We find ourselves struggling to make ends meet at the worst possible time, with a fascist in the White House and democracy hanging by a thread.
Which brings me to the reason I’m emailing you today.
