Sarah for Iowa

Hi John, it’s Sarah.

If you’re already with me, you can chip in here and help us finish the month strong. If not, I’d love for you to read a little more about why I’m doing this work.

Before we close out the month, I wanted to share something about me. My call to public service didn’t start with politics. It began when I worked as an Americorps VISTA in Gallup, New Mexico, with a legal aid program on a domestic violence project. From talking with community leaders, advocates, and survivors, I learned that faith leaders needed help addressing the problem, so I organized a conference for faith leaders to help them better serve their communities. There, I learned that showing up, listening, and offering care can change everything for someone who is struggling.

That lesson stayed with me when I later served as a hospital chaplain, where I showed up for families during some of the hardest moments of their lives. It guided me when I served a rural parish in Virginia and picked up the church directory so I could visit every household and better understand what mattered to them. It shaped the years I spent in nonprofit work and the work I do now in the State Senate, where I try every day to meet people where they are and find common ground.

Those experiences taught me that we share more in common than what sets us apart. And that’s why I’m running for Congress. I want to bring that same spirit of service and care to the people of Iowa’s Third Congressional District and make sure their voices are heard in Washington.

This election is one of the most important opportunities we have to make that kind of difference. IA-03 is a true toss-up, and the people who live here deserve a representative who understands their lives and their challenges. But we can only do that work if we have the resources to reach folks — from all backgrounds — across the district.

With just two days left in the month, my team is asking supporters to chip in whatever they can to keep us on track. If you’re able, it would mean a lot to me.
