The American Golden-Plover is swift and graceful in flight, undertaking an epic annual migration from Arctic Alaska and Canada to southern South America. But over the past 50 years, its population has declined by more than 50 percent. Based on these long-term population losses and accelerated declines within the past decade, this speedy shorebird is now listed as an Orange Alert Tipping Point species in the latest State of the Birds report.
