Next week, I'll complete my 39th annual 99 county meetings by holding a town meeting in Clay County. I’ve held at least one meeting in every county, every year since I was first elected to the Senate in 1980. My annual tradition of holding a question-and-answer session in each of Iowa’s 99 counties helps me better serve the people of Iowa. It gives me an opportunity to talk to Iowans face-to-face and hear what’s on their minds. No matter the setting, the format is the same. Iowans set the agenda. I encourage Iowans to follow me on Twitter @ChuckGrassley and on Instagram @SenatorChuckGrassley to see the topics that are raised at each county meeting.

As part of my work on the Senate Finance Committee, I sent a letter to the Department of Commerce’s Office of Inspector General to learn more about recent staff departures, low morale and falling productivity after hearing from whistleblowers. Whistleblowers are pivotal to identifying waste, fraud and abuse in our federal government and are necessary to the work of an inspector general. I'm going to continue working with my colleagues to hold our government agencies accountable.

During August, I've been talking with folks around the state about the benefits of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). While I was at the State Fair, I joined Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and former U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) to discuss the significant benefits for Iowa's farmers. Next week, I'm touring a dairy plant with former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and meeting with USDA Undersecretary Bill Northey and other agriculture leaders to discuss the importance of passing this agreement. The time to pass USMCA is now, and I encourage Iowans to join me in supporting this modernized trade deal.

This week, Politico highlighted some of the Senate Finance Committee's major efforts under my leadership so far this session. From prescription drug pricing and nursing home reform to my continuous oversight efforts, I've worked to put taxpayers first. Read more in the profile here.
