Dear John,
Black Friday is here, and while the internet is shouting about sales, we want to offer something a little different.
Instead of spending, we’re inviting you to take an action that strengthens your community. No pressure, no guilt — just a reminder that small acts of care add up.
Here are a few places where a little time or support goes a long way:
🍎 Support your local food bank
Food insecurity is rising nationwide, and local food banks are stretched thin.
If you’re able, consider giving to Feeding America or volunteering at a food bank near you.
📚 Show up for your local library
Libraries are community anchors, offering safe spaces, literacy programs, job help, and more. Many have “Friends of the Library” groups accepting volunteers and donations.
📻 Keep trusted local news strong
Your local PBS and NPR stations rely on community support to stay independent and accessible. Even a small contribution helps keep fact-based information available to everyone.
And if you want a concrete way to take action today, we’re putting major focus on Aftyn Behn’s race in TN-7, which heads into a special election on December 2. This is a real flip opportunity: momentum is building, and strong voter turnout could make the difference in a district that hasn’t been competitive in years.
You can plug into Aftyn’s race, and find more ways to take meaningful action in our Action Center >>
Thanks for being part of this work. Let’s keep showing up in all the ways that matter.
With appreciation,
The Union
