Dear friend,

What a busy month it has been at the Centre. We published our Empowering Minds ([link removed]) report - our evaluation of the Pilgrim Trust’s Young Women in Mind programme - along with a blog ([link removed]) that highlights the unique issues that young women face and the need for tailored, trauma-informed, age and gender specific support to improve their mental health.

We carried out a webinar exploring Barnardo’s BIRD service which has the potential to reduce pressure on emergency departments and CAMHS crisis teams. You can watch it back on YouTube ([link removed]) .

Our CEO Andy Bell reflects on the NHS medium term planning framework and the need for evidence based approaches in his latest blog ([link removed]) . Crown Agabi wrote about ([link removed]) the background and future plans of the Not So Micro anti-racism initiative, and Professor Patrick Vernon OBE’s blog ([link removed]) explored the trauma, grief, and loss experienced by the Windrush generation and their families.

Finally, we celebrated the Children and Young People's Mental Health Coalition 15th birthday with partners, stakeholders, and young people and what a blast it was! Alongside a collaborative network of over 300 organisations, the Coalition aims to continue the mission of working to improve all children and young people’s mental health.

Empowering minds

Young women are facing stark inequalities in mental health. More than 30% of young women are living with a common mental health problem and they are twice as likely to have a mental health problem than young men.

This report evaluates the Young Women in Mind programme, launched by the Pilgrim Trust to address the worsening mental health of young women through targeted and tailored community-based support.

Celebrating 15 years of
The Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition

We’re proud to be the hosts of the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition ([link removed]) , a collaborative network of over 420 organisations dedicated to advocating for and influencing policy in relation to the mental health needs of babies, children and young people.

On 15 November, members gathered to celebrate the Coalition’s 15 years of driving change in the children’s mental health system. With a resurgence in harmful narratives that underplay or deny the very real increase in mental health difficulties among children and young people, this was an important opportunity to discuss how we continue to work together to build a mentally healthier future for all children and young people.

Health Equals has released new data revealing that 15 million people in the UK live in homes with issues like damp, mould or cold. These issues are known causes of respiratory and cardiovascular symptoms, depression and anxiety.

Good quality, safe, secure housing is a foundation for good mental health. We’re supporting Health Equals in their campaign for the Government to end to the unsafe living conditions that are fuelling health inequalities. Join the campaign by writing to your MP.
