Happy Thanksgiving to our American readers. Although Thanksgiving has its origins in Civil War-era government propaganda, the day has come to mean, for many, a celebration of domestic life and the freedom to enjoy the fruits of the market economy. We don’t have any complaints about that.

Unfortunately, when the long weekend is over, Americans will still have to return to the grim reality of our profligate national government in which neither major party has any interest in shrinking the size of the American state.
