John,
Thanksgiving is supposed to be a time when every family sits down to a full table, even if the year has been hard. But this week, millions of families are staring at empty cupboards because Republicans pushed through the Big Brutal Budget and cut $187 billion from SNAP over ten years. That is the largest attack on America’s most effective anti-hunger program in its history.
These cuts are already forcing states to absorb huge new costs and impose stricter time limits on people who are older, disabled, between jobs, or caring for children. Veterans, seniors, and families who already struggle to cover groceries are being ground down by requirements designed to trip them up, not help them get food.
Republican leaders know exactly what they are doing. They targeted the program that lifts millions of people out of poverty, improves health outcomes, supports children’s development, and keeps rural communities alive. They slashed it not to solve a fiscal crisis, but to satisfy an extremist agenda that treats hunger as collateral damage. The cruelty is the point.
Democrats in the House and Senate have introduced the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act to reverse these cuts and restore the support that communities depend on. The shutdown showed us what happens when SNAP is weakened. Families cannot wait. Congress must act before these attacks deepen and more people go hungry.
Tell Congress to reverse the SNAP cuts in the Big Brutal Budget and restore food security for millions.
Every family deserves the ability to put food on the table, whether they live in a city, a small town, or a rural county. SNAP has proven again and again to be one of the most effective tools we have to reduce hunger and help families stay afloat during hard times.
Cutting food assistance during an affordability crisis is unconscionable. Food banks are already strained. Grocery prices are still high. Schools are overwhelmed trying to support kids who rely on SNAP to stay healthy. Instead of helping families bridge the gap, these cuts push them closer to eviction, illness, and long-term hardship.
SNAP strengthens the entire economy. It supports farms, grocers, and small businesses in every community. It is one of the most effective investments we can make.
Congress must listen to the people who fight hunger every day, not the politicians who treat nutrition assistance as a line item to slash.
Demand Congress pass the Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act to undo the largest SNAP cut in history.
Together, let’s fight to protect families from hunger.
