An Anti-Racist Approach to Supporting Child Care Through COVID-19 and Beyond
The coronavirus has revealed and worsened racial inequities across the child care sector. Long-embedded racism, discrimination, and inadequate investment have created a system that does not fully meet the needs of workers, families and children.
Child care cannot be an afterthought during this crisis – our relief and recovery efforts must be rooted in racial equity. Policymakers and advocates must contend with historic and structural racism as well as the immediate need for action. CLASP’s Child Care and Early Education team has just published a new report, An Anti-Racist Approach to Supporting Child Care Through COVID-19 and Beyond [[link removed]] , which explains the origins of long-standing inequities in child care, examines how the coronavirus pandemic has exacerbated them, and offers recommendations for how stakeholders can address them to build a fairer system. We can and must do better to improve quality, affordability, and access to child care across the country.
