Comrades,
Hoping your summer is going as well as it can! We've got some great news and updates for you.
First, our city council work to #DefundThePolice is progressing nicely! We're now working directly with three of the city council members on our proposed amendments, with plans to submit more very soon. Here's how you can help with this effort:
- Call and email your city councillor and say you support our work! Especially if you live in districts 5 or 6.
- Show up at the Tuesday night council meetings (on Zoom) and sign up before 6pm to speak in support of us during the public comment period! This is every Tuesday!
- Join our Slack here if you haven't already to keep up on our day-to-day organizing efforts!
Second, come to our next general meeting on Saturday, July 25th! 2pm ET on Zoom. We'll discuss the following:
- A retrospective of the first half of 2020, and a discussion of strategy and goals for the remainder of the year
- Status updates from in-progress working groups and efforts
- A quick review of the results of our recent member survey (take it now if you haven't yet!)
- And more!
Third, right after the meeting, head down to Miller Park at 5pm for our Workers for Black Lives march, co-hosted with several other groups! We'll start with music in the park before we begin our march around downtown and westside Chattanooga. We'll have several stops and speakers along the way to discuss labor history in Chattanooga and how the labor movement intersects with the Black Lives Matter movement!

See y'all at the council meeting on Tuesday!
Solidarity.
