Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation designating the last Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day. Among the things for which Lincoln expressed gratitude in his 540-word message was the fact that, even in the midst of a civil war, Americans continued to enjoy many blessings.
“No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things,” reads Lincoln’s message. “They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy.”
More than a century and a half later, we continue the tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday in November. I hope each of us can take time this week to truly feel and express thankfulness for our blessings — warm homes, good friends, caring families, hearty meals and the myriads of other gifts that enrich our lives.
In his Thanksgiving message, Lincoln stated, “The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.”
Among the blessings for which I am grateful this year is the privilege of serving you, my fellow Hoosiers. As my team and I put the finishing touches on a strong 2025, we are determined to continue working on your behalf with the same level of care and earnestness that I hope you have come to expect from us.
From Kathy, the boys, and me to you and your family: here’s hoping you find joy in this week’s holiday and take time to rest, reflect, and rejuvenate. Happy Thanksgiving!
In service,
Todd Rokita
