Dear friend,
Our work has taken us far and wide in recent weeks.
Alex in a suit
To Scottish Parliament… where Alex was invited to speak on a committee!
Scotland has its own Freedom of Information system, and they’re planning changes they hope will both modernise and strengthen it — we were invited to give our thoughts on these.
If you’d like to know more (or even watch Alex in action), see our blog post ([link removed]) .
To Welsh Parliament, aka the Senedd… where, yesterday, Julia spoke about the opportunities and challenges of the new electoral system coming to Wales ([link removed]) in May next year.
She also explained how our services like TheyWorkForYou ([link removed]) , which covers the Senedd ([link removed]) in English and Welsh ([link removed]) ; and WriteToThem ([link removed]) (soon to be in Welsh ([link removed]) ), can help citizens stay connected to their representatives.
Meanwhile, today Alex is speaking at the London Assembly about holding mayors to account ([link removed]) (timely, as six UK areas aregetting mayors for the first time ([link removed]) ); last week he was on a panel about procuring AI ([link removed]) ; and on Tuesday Zarino was speaking about government contracting ([link removed]) . Whew!
It's nice to get about and meet people across the UK, and it's all important work as well. We're speaking to the institutions that decide so much about how society runs. That allows us to advocate for better laws and systems that benefit everyone.
And if these events all sound a bit geeky, or dry? Yeah, we get it — the intricacies of democracy and Parliament aren't for everyone. But they are for us!
We are pushing for things to be better, to the people and institutions that can make it happen. That's what our work is all about.
** Which makes us wonder...

How much do you like to know about our work?
🤓 <a href="[link removed]" target="_blank">I love to know all the little details of what you’re up to</a>
😊 <a href="[link removed]" target="_blank">I'm happy just knowing someone's taking care of it</a>
All the best,
Myf and the team at mySociety
