LGBTQ political power keeps growing.

John,

I’m pleased to announce that the 2020 Out of America report is now live! And just like participating in our trainings, or enjoying a drag show, you can now read this report from the comfort of your home. You can find the full report online here.

While 22,544 more LGBTQ people must be elected to achieve equitable representation, our hard work to build a lasting pipeline of diverse LGBTQ elected officials at all levels of government continues to pay off. Though 2019 was an “off-year” election cycle, we still saw a huge increase in openly LGBTQ elected officials. As you can see below, the number of LGBTQ elected officials increased by 21%!

Some of our biggest gains came at the state and local level. The number of openly LGBTQ mayors grew by 35%, proving once again that 2019 was the Year of the Lesbian Mayor. And in the state legislatures, LGBTQ political power grew by 9%. After years of discriminatory legislation and setbacks in those bodies, we’re hearing more and more LGBTQ voices stemming the tide of hatred.

But there are still four states that have never elected an LGBTQ state legislator, and even more that have never elected a Governor, Congressperson or Senator. As the only national organization dedicated to training and supporting LGBTQ candidates and elected officials, we can help them win. Donate today to support our efforts to increase the number of LGBTQ elected officials nationwide!

In a year filled with setbacks and disasters, it’s heartening to see that not only are more LGBTQ people stepping forward to run, but that they’re winning on Election Day. Keep moving progress forward – donate to Victory Institute today.

Thank you for standing with us.
