Folks, this is OUR LAST CHANCE!

Dear Neighbor,

RWJ Barnabas is trying to close Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) hospital in Long Branch, but you still have an opportunity to make your voices heard against this closure.

Last week, I sent a letter to the New Jersey Department of Health demanding that they schedule a hearing in Long Branch so that everyone could have the chance to explain their opposition to MMC’s closure directly to RWJ Barnabas and State officials.

This week, we got news that the state’s final public hearing is being held in the Trenton area, but I also secured an opportunity for local residents to speak and make their voices heard.

The public will be able to address the State Health Planning Board virtually at the Long Branch Senior Center, 85 Second Ave beginning at 10am on Thursday, December 4. The city of Long Branch is making all arrangements with the state to accomplish this, so residents can attend, or speak if they desire.

Unlike the previous hearing, no one will be locked out in the cold. The Long Branch Senior Center is a large and comfortable facility.

We won’t let Trump toss our neighbors onto the street.

As the Trump Administration continues to ignore Americans’ pleas for affordability, Trump is making it harder for housing providers to help the homeless.

Winter is fast approaching, and the Trump Administration’s choice to cut Continuum of Care (CoC) and Youth Homeless Demonstration Program will cut federal permanent housing support by 60% and $47 million. Local and state governments in New Jersey rely on this funding, and revoking it would put housing for 2,000 of our neighbors at risk.

This is plain cruelty. I led my New Jersey colleagues in demanding the Trump Administration show some compassion—especially as the holiday season approaches—and restore this funding immediately to help keep our neighbors safe and housed. I also met with local housing advocates in New Jersey on Tuesday to discuss the impacts of these cuts and emphasize why exactly these programs are so important.

So long, Lindsey!

This week, a federal court dismissed charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James—charges that were levied as part of Trump’s assault on his political opponents by his interim U.S. Attorney appointee, Lindsey Halligan.

The judge dismissed those charges on the basis that Halligan wasn’t even lawfully appointed, meaning any actions she took, including these baseless indictments, were totally invalid under the provisions of the Preserving United States Attorney Independence Act that I championed.

That law requires Senate confirmation of U.S. Attorneys within 120 days. The Trump Administration ignored that law when it installed Halligan long after the interim window expired.

The dismissal of the charges came after I filed a legal brief with my colleagues urging the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where Halligan was illegally appointed to serve, to reject Halligan’s appointment and throw the charges out.

Alina Habba, New Jersey’s equivalent U.S. attorney, has also been illegally appointed and installed to do Trump’s dirty work. It’s time for her to go, too.

I’m looking forward to sitting down to dinner with my family this Thanksgiving, but as we’re doing our shopping—everything is more expensive.

Whether it’s mashed potatoes or the mix for stuffing (my favorite!), prices are on the rise. This is despite President Trump telling us all over the news that everything’s cheaper, including popular grocery store deals. The fact of the matter is that there’s less food in these meal deals!

Tariffs and inflation are squeezing American consumers—we’re seeing that in reports that show that Americans are tightening their belts for the holiday season. It shouldn’t be this way. People shouldn’t have to make tough sacrifices to celebrate holidays with their family.
