John,

With Thanksgiving coming up tomorrow, I’ve been doing some reflecting. I have so much to be thankful for:

My family, friends, and community, who have always filled my life with love and happiness.

The Arizonans who make up this great state, and who entrust me to lead them every day.

And of course, I couldn’t forget folks like you, who continue to support me throughout every step of this journey.

I’m filled with gratitude, but I’m also keeping in mind that this time of year can be tough for many.

Thanksgiving hasn’t always been an easy time for me and my family. For many years, my family faced difficult financial circumstances. When my dad was between jobs, it was a struggle to make ends meet, and we relied on our church community and food stamps to put food on the table.

In the Great Recession, I lost my home. And after being elected to the State Senate and earning just $24,000 a year, I started driving for Uber around Thanksgiving so we could afford Christmas gifts for our kids.

Too many of our neighbors are in similar situations. I learned early on that when you’re in a tough spot, it’s important to show up for your neighbors. SoJohn, this Thanksgiving, I’m asking you to join me in paying it forward if you can.
