Dear Friend,
At Freedom for Immigrants, our work is moved by the idea that every person is worthy of freedom and human dignity. As the U.S. races to expand its immigration detention system to criminalize and disappear our neighbors and loved ones, our vision has never been more vital — to our livelihoods, and our very survival.
Trump and his cronies have erased hard-won progress. We now face:
Record numbers of people in immigration detention.
Previously shut-down detention centers reopening
Gutted oversight mechanisms, leaving people inside with fewer protections than ever.
This is the landscape we’re operating in. Giving Tuesday offers a moment to pause and practice radical generosity — a form of collective care for one another that we can turn to even when our government chooses punishment and neglect. For us, it’s not just a fundraising day. It’s a necessary opportunity to resource the critical support our team is providing daily to people inside ICE detention.
Radical generosity helps our team fight for our vision with the scale and urgency this moment demands. Your contribution will directly support:
Expanding FFI’s hotline capacity as call volume increases due to mass detention and re-detention.
Producing and distributing pro se legal and self-help medical materials for people deprived of these essential resources inside detention
Strengthening our organizing efforts with people currently inside ICE detention and those at risk of transfer from prison to ICE
Document abuse and file federal complaints to hold the government accountable
Nothing about this moment is theoretical. The people experiencing detention today are facing some of the worst conditions we’ve seen in years. We need the resources to continue showing up quickly and with care.
As we approach Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to join us in practicing the kind of radical generosity and collective care that ensures people in detention are not abandoned in this moment of crisis.
More details coming soon.
In solidarity, Wensley Peguero Development Director Freedom for Immigrants
