Happy Thanksgiving!

You may be busy cooking or traveling today so I’ll be quick, but I couldn’t let Thanksgiving come and go without expressing my gratitude.

As always, I’m so grateful for my family and our health. But this year in particular, I’m also grateful for the millions of Californians who have stood up and fought to protect our democracy. Thank you for however you chose to stand up and speak out.

I’m also grateful for the farmworkers and poultry workers whose hard work makes our Thanksgiving meals possible. Too many people are quick to give thanks for the food on our tables without thinking about the people — including so many immigrants — whose hard work gets the turkey, fruit, and vegetables to grocery stores and restaurants.

But in addition to saying thank you, I also have a request.

The holiday season is the busiest time of the year for food banks, so your contribution now will make a big difference as they prepare for Thanksgiving and the entire holiday season.

And food banks need even more this year. With rising costs driving more people to seek their services and the Trump administration throwing SNAP into chaos, food banks are a vital community service. It’s more important than ever that they have the resources they need to feed our neighbors in need.
