Friends, this week I joined a bipartisan coalition of 36 state attorneys general in opposing proposed federal legislation that would preempt state laws that address the risks of artificial intelligence.
AI has the potential to create immense innovation and support major progress across industries. But it also poses significant risks — especially to children. Many states are working to mitigate those risks, but efforts from Congress and the Trump White House would limit our ability to do that.
Congress should absolutely establish guardrails to address AI risks at the national level. But until they do, states must be able to protect our citizens.

That’s why I’ve filed lawsuits against both Meta and TikTok for intentionally designing their platforms to addict young people, and pushed OpenAI to take responsibility for its products’ inappropriate interactions with children.
