Have you seen the headlines, John?

The New York Times: Justice Democrats Re-Emerge in New York to Try to Unseat Espaillat; Axios: Hispanic Caucus chair becomes latest House Dem to draw a primary foe; The American Prospect: Justice Dems Pick Longtime Organizer to Take Harlem; Punchbowl News: Espaillat faces Justice Dems-backed challenger; Salon: “Always put the people first”: Progressives get a new candidate in New York City

One week ago, we endorsed our fifth 2026 Democratic primary challenger: Darializa Avila Chevalier, who’s taking on AIPAC-backed Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th district.

Like Darializa told the New York Times, “He takes money from the very institutions that are making life harder for New Yorkers here — institutions like landlords, AIPAC and corporate PACs — and turns the other way when our rents are being raised, when we’re being priced out of our communities. And I think New Yorkers are hungry for something different. I think this past mayoral election proves that.”

This is our chance to take the energy from Zohran Mamdani’s groundbreaking victory and funnel it into our campaign to elect another progressive leader who will put working people before corporate donors and the pro-Israel lobby.

With your support, Justice Democrats has unseated powerful members of New York City’s Democratic machine before: In 2018, we replaced 10-term incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2018. In 2020, we took out 32-year incumbent Eliot Engel and elected Jamaal Bowman.

In 2026, we can defeat Adriano Espaillat and elect Darializa Avila Chevalier. But only if we keep up this momentum.
