John,
Donald Trump is attacking nonprofits with his misnamed memorandum, “Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence.” Make no mistake, this memo does nothing to keep our communities safe. It only serves to silence free speech by threatening to remove the tax-exempt status of nonprofit organizations.
Employing vague terms like “anti-American” and “anti-Christian,” Trump orders agencies to investigate or penalize individuals and groups based on their opposition to his dangerous agenda.
From nonprofit news rooms to nonprofit food banks, these organizations serve our communities, uplift vulnerable families, and defend democracy.
Sign now to tell Acting IRS Commissioner Scott Bessent: Free speech, freedom of the press, and the right to protest are not “domestic terrorism.” Do not punish nonprofit organizations and newsrooms for expressing their constitutional rights.

Under this memorandum, Trump could dismantle climate or health justice groups, LGBTQ rights advocates, racial justice orgs, immigrant advocacy groups, independent news rooms―anyone who dares to oppose him or hold his administration accountable. And it wouldn’t stop with Trump. If this undemocratic executive overreach goes unchecked, any future president could abuse this power.
Nonprofits are the ones standing up to this administration against continued attacks on our communities. They’re the ones handing out food to help ensure people don’t go hungry this holiday season. Trump’s memorandum would put all of that in jeopardy.
Tell Acting IRS Commissioner Scott Bessent to reject Trump’s order, which would harm nonprofit organizations, our communities, and our basic rights.
Thank you for all you do,
