Herbert – What we’re seeing from ICE and DHS here in Illinois is truly unacceptable. 

We’ve seen masked ICE agents terrorize communities, grabbing our neighbors while refusing to identify themselves and failing to obey the law and respect our rights.

We’ve seen federal agents deploy tear gas and rubber bullets on peaceful protests, use dangerous, excessive force, and endanger residents, children, and even local police officers.

We’ve seen thousands swept up into detention centers – including legal residents and even citizens. And we just learned that only 16 of those detained have criminal histories.

We’ve seen reports of deplorable conditions in detention centers – and ZERO accountability or oversight. I even had the police called on me for trying to exercise my right as a Member of Congress to inspect these facilities. 

This has got to end, Herbert.

As a proud immigrant myself, this fight is personal to me. That’s why I’ve been leading the fight to protect our community and hold ICE accountable for its abuses and corruption.
