John,
Trump’s administration has launched a full-scale assault on the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax. This 15% minimum tax was designed to ensure that giant corporations making over $1 billion in profits each year finally pay a baseline minimum that prevents accountants and lobbyists from rigging the system. Now, Trump’s Treasury Department and IRS are dismantling it behind closed doors to hand corporations and billionaires a windfall the public never approved.
Instead of enforcing the law that already exists, Trump’s team is rewriting the rules to benefit the same wealthy executives and multinational corporations the CAMT was designed to hold accountable. They quietly raised income thresholds, created new industry carveouts, and opened loopholes big enough for crypto giants, private equity firms, and multinational tax-dodgers to march straight through.
Every new exemption is another gift to corporations that already pay far less than teachers, firefighters, nurses, and working families.
Congress cannot allow this sabotage to continue. Lawmakers have both the power and the responsibility to hold hearings, demand transparency, and force the Treasury Department and IRS to enforce the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax as written, not as lobbyists and corporate insiders wish it to be.
Tell Congress to enforce the Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax and stop Trump’s secret tax breaks for corporations and the rich.
This is a direct attack on tax fairness. The CAMT was projected to raise more than $222 billion in a decade, money intended to fund healthcare, housing, education, green energy, childcare, and the services Americans rely on every single day. But Trump’s administration is working to erase that revenue by crippling enforcement, weakening oversight, and hollowing out the IRS’s ability to investigate the most complex corporate tax schemes.
Weakening the CAMT means letting corporations report billions in profits to their shareholders while paying next to nothing in federal income taxes. It means giving private equity titans new shelters to hide wealth. It means rewarding crypto firms that use accounting gimmicks to dodge obligations the rest of us can’t escape. For working families, it means fewer services and deeper inequality, all so the wealthy can hoard even more.
If Congress does not intervene, this rollback will cement a two-tier tax system, one for billionaires and multinational corporations, and another for everyone else.
Tell Congress to enforce the CAMT, close the loopholes, and stop Trump’s Treasury Department from gutting the law in secret.
Together, we can defend tax fairness and protect the public from corporate greed.
