A small group in Congress chose the harder, more responsible path.

John,

As we head into Thanksgiving, here is the one thing we want our members to know: No Labels’ congressional allies are now leading the way on the most important issue Congress will face after the holiday.

I am talking about healthcare. Millions of people will face steep insurance premium increases unless Congress delivers a solution supported by both Democrats and Republicans in the House and the Senate.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer is leading the charge in the House. Sen. Bill Cassidy is doing the same in the Senate. Both are trying to fix the original sin of healthcare reform in America.

For 15 years, every major healthcare decision has been entirely partisan.

That brings us to our current impasse. Rep. Gottheimer, Sen. Cassidy, and their colleagues recognize they cannot waste time with partisan solutions that mathematically cannot pass Congress. They need to deliver an American healthcare solution.

That is what Rep. Gottheimer and Sen. Cassidy are doing along with other colleagues, including Reps. Jen Kiggans, Juan Ciscomani, and Adam Gray. To get a sense of how the members are approaching this challenge, check out this interview Rep. Gottheimer gave today on CNBC about healthcare.

Given the tight timeline, this bipartisan group will not be able to deliver a comprehensive fix to all that ails American healthcare. The harder work – to reform a healthcare system where costs are rising 35% faster than inflation – is still to be done.

But our allies can prevent a sudden and painful spike in premiums for millions of families. They can implement sensible reforms to reduce fraud and get at some of the underlying drivers of high healthcare costs. For a parent staring at a January bill that is hundreds of dollars higher, this matters. Our allies could make the difference between many families keeping healthcare coverage or going without.

It might surprise you that a Democratic congressman from New Jersey and a Republican senator from Louisiana are taking such a lead role on this issue. Yet Rep. Gottheimer and Sen. Cassidy are just doing the same thing they did in 2021, when they helped lead the passage of the biggest federal infrastructure bill since President Eisenhower built the Interstate Highway System.

They have identified a problem and are committed to working relentlessly toward an American solution. The relationships and trust between these leaders – and our many other allies in the House and Senate – have been forged in years of No Labels-organized meetings.

It is a reminder of why the work we do is so tremendously important. When the chips are down – when Washington has to govern – our allies aim to rise to the occasion.

You can expect to hear a lot more about this in the days after Thanksgiving, when negotiations over a healthcare fix will intensify. To make sure you stay in the loop, follow No Labels on X (formerly known as Twitter) for the latest updates:

We wish you a safe and happy holiday with your friends and family.
