After Trump welcomed Crown Prince Mohammend bin Salman (MBS) to the Oval Office, a CNN headline read, “Saudi Arabia’s crown prince got almost everything he wanted from Trump.”1 Trump promised MBS $142 billion in weapons sales, including 300 tanks and F-35 jets produced by Lockheed Martin — some of the most advanced military technology in the world.2 Saudi Arabia has led a war on Yemen that’s killed over 150,000 people, and has targeted hospitals and created mass starvation by blocking food aid.3 And according to the CIA, the Crown Prince approved the brutal murder of American journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.4 The U.S. should not be sending weapons to the Saudi regime. Sign the petition: Block Trump’s sale of F-35 jets and tanks to Saudi Arabia!Senator Bernie Sanders criticized Trump’s meeting with MBS, Trump’s financial ties to the Saudi royal family, and the windfall for Lockheed Martin. Sanders said that American policy was now shaped by “the personal financial interests of Trump and his fellow oligarchs.”5 The Trump family is pursuing major real estate deals with Saudi Arabia. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, received $2 billion in investments from the Saudis.6 Rep. Eugene Vindman also revealed that there’s a “highly disturbing” classified call transcript between Trump and MBS after the murder of Khashoggi. Rep Vindman said the transcript “would shock people if they knew what was said.”7 Congress must block this sale of U.S. weapons to Saudi Arabia and stop the American government from becoming even more complicit with the horrors of the Crown Prince’s regime.
