North Carolina is at the center of the political map in 2026. All eyes are on us, and Republicans are targeting elections at every level of the ballot.

But some of the most important races — races that will affect everyone in this state — aren’t at the top of most people’s minds. I’m reaching out today to share my thoughts on one of those critical races happening here in North Carolina — and to ask for your help.

John, Anita is one of only two Democratic justices on the Court. Republicans are targeting her seat in an attempt to cement their GOP Court majority for years to come — and we can’t let them.

We saw last year what can happen when Republicans lose elections here in North Carolina. When Justice Earls’ colleague, Democratic Justice Allison Riggs, defeated her GOP opponent, Republicans tried to toss out legal ballots and overturn the election in their favor.

Justice Earls has deep experience as a civil rights lawyer and an advocate for voting rights. She’s the founder of Southern Coalition for Social Justice, which aims to advance racial and social justice through legal advocacy. She argued against racial gerrymandering here in North Carolina back in 2017 — gerrymandering that the U.S. Supreme Court then struck down.

Most importantly, Anita is a jurist of the highest caliber, whose first commitment is to upholding the constitutions of this state and our nation. She does not take her responsibility to our people lightly. We need her on this Court.
